reviews"Der Flaschenteufel (Bottle Imp) by Günter Cornett is one of the most inventive and challenging card games of recent years. " (Derek Carver, Counter, December 2004) "The Bottle Imp is currently my favorite trick-taking game. Each game plays differently, and the two-player variant works surprisingly well, making it a good game to share with my wife. Hard-core gamers, as well as people who’ve never played a “German” game before, all loved the game when I introduced it; and I haven’t met anyone who has disliked it yet. It’s simple, quick, and fun; but with a great deal of strategy. ... If you like trick-taking games, this is one of the best; I highly recommend it. As with nearly all trick taking card games, Der Flaschenteufel is very interactive; it doesn't particularly stand out in this aspect. Card counting is important to Der Flaschenteufel, but isn't particularly difficult - keeping track of how many cards have been played in each suit and the top and bottom few cards is sufficient for general play. ... Overall, Der Flaschenteufel is one of my favorite trick taking card games this side of Bridge, and a worthwhile addition for any fans of the genre. It has held up very well - I have played it at least three times every year since first playing it in 1998. Each hand takes only a few minutes, so it's easy to fit in as a filler or play for a longer session as desired. The bottle imp trick is a wonderfully efficient mechanism for adding tension to the play; with a bad hand, just avoiding the bottle imp can be an impressive accomplishment. (Joe Huber at http://www.thegamesjournal.com/reviews/Flaschenteufel.shtml My opinion goes something like this: buy it! It's a trick-taking game with a clever, literary theme that actually works. That's rare enough to warrant a purchase, but it's also a very good game. ...I've rated the game as 9 at Geek, with a possible raise to 10 coming it's way one day. I think it's the best trick-taking game out there and especially one with the best theme. I recommend you check it out, now the new edition is out and the game is easy to find.
